Heavy environmental pollution as 8000 chemicals are involved Even though pollution is under check, 8000 chemicals are involved Lots of dangerous synthetic dyes and chemicals are known to be used in practice to give vegetable dyeing effect No pollution is involved as colors are directly derived from Medicinally rich herbs, flowers, stems, roots, etc.
Mostly allergic, pro-microbial inflammatory and bad transpirations Could be allergic, pro-microbial inflammatory and bad transpirations Depends on the chemicals used Herbs used are known to cure allergies having anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory properties, also enhance body transpiration
42 cancer producing chemicals listed could be present Only 22 banned amines are eliminated, which are cancerous in nature (AZO FREE) Depends on the chemicals used No cancerous amines present. Instead has rich medicinal properties due to the presence of medicinally rich herbs

Could be Inorganic Matter Could be Inorganic Matter Could be Inorganic Matter Organic Matter
Mostly non biodegradable detergents used Mostly degradable detergents used Could be both No detergents used
Weakens Textile fiber due to the strong chemicals involved Weakens textile fiber due to the chemicals involved Depends on the chemicals involved Strengthens textile fiber, lasts longer

How do we know that a garment is Herbal-dyed? What are the obvious differences beside the laboratory reports?

herbal dyed garment would have the following characteristics:
  • It will become brighter after it washed first time in any synthetic detergents because while dyeing no chemical detergents have been used.
  • The garment has a typical smell of the myraballams or other herbs mixed with it.
  • The shade of color cannot be duplicated exactly, as in the case of chemical dyed garments.
  • Above all, your body tells you, loud and clear once you wear because it helps to increase transpiration and is also anti-allergic unlike chemical dyed textiles.
  • Unlike chemical colors natural color is a combination of different colors.

You help preventing pollution by avoiding the use of more then 1/3 pound of lethal chemicals, which is essential in making one of shirt
You encourage tree plantations, because the herbs used are the main sources of raw material
You provide manure to the soil & plants because the waste generated by herbal dyes would serve the same purpose
You know that the color or design of the garment is unique because it cannot be repeated naturally
You believe in God and Nature for it's beautiful colors
You say 'YES' to health and 'NO' to allergies, septic condition, cancer, bad transpiration etc., all caused by wearing conventional textiles made using deadly chemicals
You know that what you are wearing is 100% natural and organic because only then is Herbal dyeing possible
You contribute to keep alive the lost treasure of Indian heritage for which India was once called "The Golden Sparrow"
You learn that glamour need not be always artificial but can sustain a beautiful cause too
You will benefit the future generations

How fast are the colors? How strong is the fabric of the herbal dyed article?

  • Most of the color can match international standards of washing fastness (3-5). Some of the colors are poor to light fastness.
  • The shades of the color of cotton dyed articles will fade eventually as in the case of any other cotton dyed article, but then in herbal dyeing a shade less then the original. In chemical dyeing a shade less, means "Faded".
  • The strength of the fiber of herbal dyed articles is more then that in the chemical dyed article because no harsh chemical has been used while dyeing it; that is, it will stand more washing than any other dyed fabric in comparison.
